Sensei Bill Damon
, an 8th Degree Black Belt, has devoted over 45 years to perfecting and teaching the martial arts. In keeping with true karate tradition, his quest for physical mastery has gone hand-in-hand with his pursuit of intellectual and spiritual excellence. Sensei (the Japanese word for “Teacher”) Damon is a co-founder of the USA National Karate-do Federation. This is the national governing body for karate in the United States and is a member of the United States Olympic Committee.
Sensei Damon's training began in 1960 in Japan. He opened his first karate school in 1969 and during the 1970s served as the consultant on self-defense to the Connecticut State Justice Academy. He is a certified police self-defense instructor. Sensei Damon is one of only a few karate men who have competed successfully over 4 decades (the 1960s through the 1990s). He retired from competition in 1993, still holding these titles: US National Champion & Arizona State Champion. Sensei Damon is also a two-time Karate All-American and a two-time USA Karate Federation National Champion. He holds the title of kyoshi, or master instructor. This honor was bestowed upon him by Yasuhiro Konishi, Grand Master of the Japan Karate-do Ryobu-Kai at its World Championship in Tokyo, Japan in 2001.
All of the instructors at Eastside Karate are trained in sport specific knowledge, as well as non-sport specific areas including sports psychology, sport physiology, sports medicine, teaching techniques and learning styles. They are all tested and certified to the highest standards.
